Job Objective 

The Clinical Instructor/Nursing is responsible for teaching nursing students in the clinical area, ensuring the practical application aligns with theoretical knowledge. This role involves planning, organizing, and evaluating clinical laboratory learning experiences, maintaining effective communication with students and staff, and upholding the standards of the nursing program.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Must possess or be eligible for an unencumbered Ohio Nursing License.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.
  • Meet all health requirements mandated by law (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • The board deemed a response from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation acceptable.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.

Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in team conferences before and after clinical rotations to discuss objectives and outcomes.
  • Plan and organize clinical laboratory learning experiences.
  • Distribute and post course objectives to specified units.
  • Orient students to the clinical facility.
  • Keep students informed of their clinical progress at mid-term and end of each term through Clinical Evaluations.
  • Evaluate clinical written assignments.
  • Assess student performance in the clinical setting using the clinical objectives for the appropriate term.
  • Conduct pre-conference discussions on nursing care objectives for each patient.
  • Verify student documentation on vital signs, intake and output, treatments, and medications.
  • Use post-conference sessions to discuss objectives met during the clinical day, such as medication administration, laboratory tests, assessments, and diagnostic studies.
  • Adhere to the philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards of the school and clinical facilities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff personnel in clinical facilities.
  • Attend all faculty meetings.
  • Report any student problems regarding attendance or clinical incidents to the supervisor.
  • Notify students via verbal and written communication of any misconduct or anticipated non-completion of objectives (clinical failure) at the time of occurrence.
  • Facilitate regular communication between theory and clinical instructors.
  • Receive immunizations and health physicals as required by clinical facilities.
